Is Taiwan and China going to war soon?

Recently ive been hearing news that China and Taiwan is going to war soon I as a Taiwanese citizen studying in China is afraid that Taiwan will really bomb Shanghai and other chinese ports. Im also worried that China would use its neuclear weapons against taiwan which will possibly wipe out half the population. So my question is: Is it true that China and Taiwan is going to war soon and if so which other countries would be involved and whos side they'll be on.

  1. I think it would be stupid of either to wage war. China would consider it a civil war as they believe Taiwan is a rogue state of China.
  2. Taiwan has no way to engage into war with China. They have no war machine up and running and they are an Island unable to support themselves in a off shore war, especially with a powerful China.. The USA "gave" Taiwan back to China's control and very little Taiwan can do about it on their own. It is hard to answer this question as there will be a diplomatic solution long before any war. You did not mention why you think a war is imminent, other than the scare tactics of the news. PS. I went on R&R in Taiwan, what a beautiful place.
  3. The answer is no, China would gain nothing from destroying Taiwan. There has not been much in the news lately about any war or rumblings of military maneuvers by the Chinese in the vicinity of Taiwan. The Chinese government feels that Taiwan is territory which belongs to the country. However, Taiwan claims it is independent and gets support from the U.S. with military equipment, money and by a U.S. Navy presence in the area. Even if China decided to attack and invade Taiwan, they would not use a nuke. That would completely destroy the small country or province depending on your views. The Chinese have more then enough military manpower to overpower Taiwan but our presence and influence in the region keep the Chinese in check. Now, if there was a war, it would be short duration and the U.S. would more then likely back Taiwan and face the Chinese for a second time since the Korean War. The Chinese like to rattle their swords every few years and cause a little ruckus but it is just talk.
  4. Taiwan and China are the same country basically , same ethnic group ,same language ,similar cultures , similar religious practices(although China is officially atheist ) , the only difference is in the form of government . PRC has followed communism while Chiang kai shek's KMT followed capitalism in Taiwan since the forming of the respective nations . even the US knows this and it is futile for anyone to resist the re-unification of the two countries. Taiwan is open to reconciliation and eventual re-unification but says it would be a gradual process over a period of time . only hardline politicians in Taiwan seem to be against this idea . therefore , i don't think Taiwan and China are going to war anytime soon amidst all the sabre-rattling by the forces of the two sides .
  5. If China was dumb enough to waste crap loads of money attacking a country that the Rhode Island National Guard could take, I would laugh. They wouldn't . One reason being is that we (the USA) would cut off trade and China would almost literally go back into the stone age. Their economy runs off of cheap dollar store crap that the USA buys. Thats why.
  6. Considering that China and Taiwan have normal diplomatic missions, cultural trade, immigration, tourism, science and technological cooperation and a vested interest in each others well being, I'd say the chances of a war between them is about as likely as a deep fried serving of french fries at McDonalds having zero grams of fat. What I fail to understand is why people keep thinking these two countries are going to war when that has been going on for close to 60 years. During the 50's, yes it was likely, but today it's not. Taiwan historically was a part of China. That is why the UN will not recognize Taiwan as a sovereign country, nor will the USA, albeit, the USA will probably defend Taiwan in an invasion. China wants Taiwan back under the one country, two government system, same as Hong Kong. Eventually, when China becomes top dog economically, Taiwan and China will be reunited in each others best interests. ============== Life is so simple, but we insist on making it complicated. 7. That is always a possibility, however, I believe is not going to happen this year. China is hosting the Olympic game this year for the very first time. For them, for all Chinese, this is truly a great honor. At this moment, they are focusing all their attentions on the event; they truly want to make a great impression for foreigners who are attending the games. If China declares war on Taiwan, it defeats the purpose the Olympic game. Even after the Olympic game, China will not declare war on Taiwan without any good reason. They will only declare war if Taiwan declare their independence. Which it is likely going to happen if the green party wins the election next year. If the war does happen, Taiwan doesn't have the offensive abilities to launch its attacks on China. Taiwan can only be on the defensive, hoping its allies will come to its aid. I doubt that China will use its nuclear weapon on Taiwan. Mainly missiles, then airborne, then landing force, the war won't last long. With nuclear attack, it can draw a lot unnecessary protests from other nations. Which it might affect China's standing among the world? Taiwan has its strategy purpose for China. Taiwan can be a major naval military for China. Just like Hawaii to U.S. From there, China can launch its attack almost anywhere in the pacific rims. For them to do, Taiwan has to be an island with livable condition. No point, if China makes Taiwan a waste land. I doubt other countries will get involves. Most of the countries will protest, but no military aids to Taiwan. However, Japan and U.S. will have concern what China will do after China took over Taiwan. When China took over, it will cause direct to U.S. bases in the pacific rims, also the door to U.S. west coast is wide open now. Japan is going to be concern its oil route from the Middle East. If China close down the area between China and Taiwan, that means Japan need to find the alternate route to import oils, which it might be extremely costly for them to do so... Remember the reason why Japan attacks U.S. during WWII... Conflict between China and Taiwan will be a shortly one, however, Taiwan might be a source of all out pacific war... World War III... Please read this with open mind. I just say what I believe.
